Hopefully the dual-side bot would decrease the weight on your shoulders.

Do you have an idea of how many sales (NuBits) Nu made over the weekend (thanks to your efforts)?

It’s not only tiring for me, but for the whole FLOT to always be ready to create, sign, execute transactions.
The weight from operating the gateways goes on top of it.
I really hope the dual side mode eases the situation.
I suppose the calculation should include the prevented damage for the brand image (hard to calculate), proceeds from trading and the losses from being used as hedge.
I’m quite sure that in the end Nu lost a calculable amount of money by being used as hedge.
When BTCUSD was crashing, the sell side was drained - Nu lost money by receiving volatile BTC, which had a smaller value each minute.
And when BTCUSD started to recover, the buy side was drained - Nu lost money by receiving stable NBT while BTCUSD was rising.
But Nu made an incalculable amount of money by having kept the track record in good shape.

You wrote somewhere that you sold 30k worth of nubits.
Maybe those 30k vanished in trading heat completely but the peg is intact and even stronger.
Is my understanding correct?
I haven’t made precise calculations, but the order of magnitude of loss by being used as hedging instrument, should rather be hundreds of Dollars, than thousands.
Each of my gateway threads contains a detailed accounting of when and how many NBT or BTC get deposited and how many get withdrawn (or wait for being withdrawn).
There should be no unexplainable gap.
If there’s something in question, I can provide the trade logs.

If you sell 8 BTC now (at $385; to relate the total to the 38 BTC that result from the “Deposits and withdrawals”) that creates ~3,000 NBT proceeds.
Which makes the status of the gateways:

2,300 NBT seem to be missing, but you need to take into account that not only the hedging, but the reduced value of the BTC play a role. If you could sell 8 BTC at $435, the difference would be below 2,000 NBT.
In the end it looks like keeping the peg on Poloniex during the BTC rollercoaster cost Nu $2,000 and made me some years older.
The question’s are:
was it worth spending the $2,000 to keep the track record of NBT in a good shape?
Would the damage to Nu’s image have exceeded $2,000?
I have no answer to these questions. My gut feeling tells me, it was worth it. I couldn’t know the price of that before, but knowing in advance that it’d cost Nu $2,000 wouldn’t have shied me away from breaking the terms to prevent the peg from breaking.
I miss an extensive dicussion about that (mis)behaviour (using proceeds from gateways to put them on the order book instead of withdrawing them in slavish obedience) in the forum.
I might be able to live with a pardon - considering my motive and the results.
I can’t live with just maintaining silence about it.
This must not create a precedent for breaking terms!

As the gateway sides were almost balanced due to withdrawals, it has been changed to dual side mode with an equal, but big offset (0.015, 0.015) to create a line of defense if the ALP fail to provide liquidity:

sidenote:
if you look at yesterday’s status and multiply the 46 BTC in total with $385 (yesterday’s BTC rate at the time of writing), the total value of yesterday’s funds on Poloniex was
$17,710 (BTC) + $26,100 (NBT) = $43,810
Today’s status (BTC at $408 at the time of writing):
$14,565 (BTC) + $30,603 (NBT) = $45,168
While it looks like Nu made money trading on Poloniex (and to some degree that might be true due to the offset), the main benefit was not having lost all BTC when the price was down and started going up (and now still having BTC when they are worth more than yesterday).
Having increased the offset of the NuBots to around 1% prevented having all BTC funds being traded to NBT while allowing to keep the peg quite closely.
I made another calculation - yesterday’s BTC funds (46) with today’s price ($408):
$18,768 (BTC) + $26,100 (NBT) = $44,868
It looks like Nu made $300 during today’s rollercoaster!
Is my math flawed?
Current configuration of one NuBot has a lowered offset for sell side (0.4%) - as incentive for trading NBT for BTC (the BTC funds are only 1/3 of the total funds).

Parametric order book could be enabled again recently.
Current settings:

I will let the dual side NuBot run with these settings for a while.
I feel like I’ve reached a point where not much room for improvement is left.

If the balance stays like this, I’ll schedule a deposit of BTC with FLOT while withdrawing NBT instead of offering cheap NBT on the market to balance.
The remaining BTC should provide sufficient buffer to do this without urgency - in difference to the last deposits to the gateway accounts.
As the thread doesn’t get bumped when I edit an embedded post, here’s the current status of the associated exchange account:

I’m going to initiate a (this time non emerency!) deposit of BTC (to both “gateway” accounts) if the BTC funds are depleted any further, while I continue withdrawing NBT (depending on the balance from one account or both) after the reset of the withdrawal limit
