Having been reading some stuff on the internet about pegs in order to learn more and I revisited this:
The situation is different as there was a strong Swiss Franc and weak Euro. The Swiss Franc basically tried to support the far bigger Euro which eventually failed with significant consequences.
Here stops the similarity with the article.
It triggered me that there is an opportunity to peg to something else right now. Maybe 0.50 US$ or something different as discussed. The Special Drawing Rights was a popular one. It has an API here: http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=USD&To=XDR and there are other publications around.
The failed Swiss peg clearly shows that a peg against a larger currency/economy is not sustainable (as the article shows and there are more examples in the not too distant history). Nu basically tried to keep the peg through BTC which is far bigger.
Clear issues which come to mind are that some development for NuBots and ALP is required and that the marketing needs to be updated. Of course it requires that Nu still tops up their reserves and limits its exposure to BTC going forward and rebuilds confidence. This will require time, we don’t have much off.
What do you think? Opportunity? Or distraction?
