Instructions for participating in the Trust-less Liquidity Pool on Bter’s NBT/CNY pair

Maximum compensation is 0.05% per day, maximum total volume on each side is 10,000 NBT, spread is 0.2%. You are always in control of your own funds.

Make a new account on Bter and verify it. Write all passwords down.

Secure the account with 2fa. Then, create an API key and secret.

Clone or download https://github.com/Nagalim/nu-pool

Navigate to nu-pool/unix or nu-pool/windows depending on your operating system. Open pool.conf and input your API key, secret, and NBT reward address:

I have started a run of NBT/CNY at bter 3 hours ago and it’s running like a charm so far. Since Renminbi isn’t pegged to USD, there are slight fluctuations in the NBT/CNY pair, but the bot handles them well due to the price feed from yahoo

What happens in case the price can’t be updated from yahoo? Will the orders be canceled?
At two occasions I found warnings regarding the price discovery:

But I couldn’t find corresponding deletions of orders. Is there a timeout after taht the orders are deleted?

If yahoo doesn’t work, it should try coindesk. If nothing works, it will keep trying for a little bit, eventually timing out and deleting your orders. It does fluctuate some, you’re right, and the bot should handle those fluctuations just fine. I’m not as concerned about orders being stuck up on this pair as I am about that happening for a BTC pair, as rapid price changes are very unlikely here.

It seems like your price is changing more than mine, which I don’t understand. If you’re finding that it’s deleting your orders every minute or two, that’s too often and we should increase the “deviation” parameter (perhaps to .1%). I’m basically not getting any registered price deviations on my end, which is mostly what we’re looking for ultimately.

@masterOfDisaster Can you please verify that you’re still getting price changes every few minutes? If so, I’ll increase the deviation to 0.1%. I’m just a little concerned about doing that because it means we’ll have to limit our spread to 0.15% to remain within the parameters of the grant, which is a shame. I don’t have many people voting for this grant yet (the vote is still under 1%) so I would be ok rehashing the grant to change the tolerance to .3% if you think we need it. (I hope that wasn’t over your head; the 0.2% spread + 0.1% deviation = 0.3% grant tolerance)

152 price updates in 14 hours is roughly 10 per hour or one each 6 minutes.

I’ve started a test run 14 hours ago. Here are the results. The run has been smooth. According to the log there have been 152 deleted and created orders due to moved prices lowest CNY price was 6.19910000 NBT highest CNY price was 6.20730000 NBT 30 occasions of “unable to update CNY price from yahoo”, which are quite evenly spread across the 14 hours So no big CNY movement at all in these hours and no trouble. I really would like someone with a more technical opinion to chime in here. I want my custodians to profit while maintaining as low a spread tolerance as possible because I think it gives my grant a powerful edge up on other custodial grants. This means I need to fine tune the ‘deviation’ parameter, which corresponds to how often a price shift is registered. What is a reasonable amount of price shifting? @masterOfDisaster’s bot is moving his orders once every couple minutes, is this reasonable if we have several users?

Bter never got back to me on a technical meeting with their developers. I was hoping to send them an email later about my operation, once I am more confident that this proposal will pass. I will tell them IP’s then and hopefully I will not be throttled or banned. If I do get throttled, I may need to do a mandatory bot update.

I know you already tried it, but those errors are exactly what I get when I enter the wrong API secret.

Unfortunately, I need to be away for a few days for personal reasons. I don’t think this requires a server side resolution, so hopefully we can solve this without too much trouble.

I’ve had a quick look at this. the error number reported seems to indicate that there is a DNS lookup issue when trying to find the bter.com address. @wengone, have you changed your dns settings or set up an http proxy recently? That could be causing the issue.

Are we sure bter has the same API specifications for IPs in China and outside China? A lot of bter’s interfaces have different contents (not just the language) if you connect with a Chinese address.

As a debugging method, @wengone could try to connect bter with a proxy located outside China (I don’t know how). If it works, it means the API key and secret are at least correct.
