The old FLOT address has 0 balance now. Here is what happened with my private key.
When I signed the tx which was needed to get fund to buyback#18 quickly, I copied the key to sign and copied the “verify” link to post in the forum using control-c and control-v. When I did the latter the ‘c’ wasn’t actually pressed so the clipboard still has the priv key. When I posted the browser window happened to be small therefore I only saw a small box with random letters pasted. If it were a bigger window the length difference between a priv key and a tx should be obvious. So I posted the private key as the URL link of “verify”.
I deleted the post in less than 20 min after @woodstockmerkle mentioned problem however I don’t know if the key is still retrieveable so I think it’s better to use a new key, which require a new address. (I had signed @woodstockmerkle’s version of tx with the old key before I found the problem )
Lessons and suggestions:
- Double check every thing when signing.
- The tx was signed and broadcasted within an hour. It broke the record. I guess every FLOT member likes to sign as quickly as possible. However getting it through quicker, and do it more often, tend to make more mistakes. It’s just probability.
- I suggest the private key in the clipboard be cleared after pasted to the signing box automatically, if possible. I wish that it is possible to post a short link to inform other FLOT member that I have signed.
